After revising and revisiting this story several times, testing the concept out as a website, and even making stickers to hand out to friends, I found a home for the original, far-future speculative version of the story at a website called Neon Dystopia. Neon Dystopia is an interesting project, including their website and podcast, that engages with cyberpunks themes, and who publish stories, and poems that fit the vibe. When I checked out their website, I had a feeling my story would fit right away… but even so, it doesn’t always work out that way. I probably submitted “The Great Erase” to at least half a dozen places, including some calls for “futuristic fiction involving AI that does good,” and was rejected over and over again. So it goes with stories.
But this time it worked out! You can find the story at the link here and drive a little traffic to their website, and ask me for some stickers later.
